When it comes to lifting weights, an important skill we should strive to develop is the ability to grind through a rep when needed. It’s pretty easy to give up on the lift when the bar is barely moving. It’s even easier to give up on the lift when the bar hasn’t yet moved off your chest or hasn’t yet broken the ground. Learning to stay with the lift at these times takes practice.
Straining against a weight is not the most comfortable thing in the world, but we must accept the fact that if we wish to lift the highest weight possible, it will not come up easy.
Having said this, I believe an even more important skill to develop, is the ability to not rely on grinding on a rep.
